About Me

Innovative mechatronics engineer with three years of experience in embedded systems, software development, and robotics. Passionate about automation, hardware design, and full-stack development. Seeking impactful solutions in embedded systems.

Skills

Below are some of the many skills I have developed over the years.

  • Programming: C/C++, Python, MATLAB, Java, ROS, Git, Linux Machine learning and Neural Networks (Python).
  • Embedded Devices: Atmel, Espressif, ARM, Raspberry Pi.
  • Sensors: Lidar, Encoders, Ultrasonic, etc.
  • Communication technologies: I2C, SPI, UART, Wi-Fi Beaconing, DSRC.
  • Tool Kits: SOLIDWORKS, Altium, Proteus, Easy EDA, Simplify 3D, Git.
  • Quick and clear communication, split-second decision making and long-term planning.
  • Generic Software and Tools: Linux, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, MS office packages.
  • Manufacturing and Prototyping: 3D Printing, PCB manufacturing, Soldering (THP, SMD), Glass and carbon fibre manufacturing.

Projects

I have been working on many projects as components of my degrees, as freelance projects, or simply to learn some technologies and programming languages.

Experimental Evaluation of DSRC/Wi-Fi Hybrid Communication Systems in Intelligent Transportation Systems.

Developing a DSRC / Wi-Fi hybrid communication that can be used in Intelligent Transportation System applications. This is being developed as an alternative low-cost communication system for DSRC and LTE systems that are currently being deployed. Wi-Fi is used for non-essential communications, while DSRC is for essential communications such as approaching emergency vehicles or railway vehicle warnings.

Autonomous Two-Wheeled Robot
self-study

Developing an RoS-based autonomous differential drive robot for indoor navigation using lidar data as a self-study project.

Smart Hydroponic GrowBox

Designed and developed a greenhouse for growing herbs and day-to-day vegetables using hydroponics. Lighting, humidity, temperature and the liquid flow is being controlled by electronics.

Smart Bottle

Designed a smart water bottle for a Sri Lankan porcelain company, including the electronics and a lid housing a solar panel, LED ring light, USB charging, and a single button. The ring light notifies the user to consume the liquid. The consumed amount is recorded and can be downloaded to a computer.

Thermal Scanner

Designed and prototyped a wall-mounted thermal scanner using an infrared thermal imager array and a Raspberry Pi, including the electronics, code, and enclosure design for the product.

BioStove

Designed an eco-friendly stove that utilizes food waste to generate biogas used to power the stove. The design was a part of a university assignment that included the electronics and the mechanical design.

Autonomous, Two-Wheeled, Self-Balancing Personal Mobility Device

Designed and developed a two-wheeled, self-balancing personal mobility platform capable of navigating a predefined indoor environment with obstacles using a LiDAR and RGB-D sensor.Responsible for mechanical design, electronics hardware architecture design and development of an android interface as a GUI for the platform.

IESL Robogames, IESL, Sri Lanka
Runners-up

Designed and developed a robot that travels over uneven terrain, follows a black line, and picks up and unloads a payload.

SLIIT Robofest, SLIIT, Sri Lanka
2nd Runners-up

Designed and developed a robot that navigates a maze, picks up a payload, senses its color, follows colored arrows, and unloads the payload.

Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka
Finalist

Designed and developed two robots. One was controlled using a remote controller to travel over uneven terrain, pick up a box, and place it in a hole in the ground to complete the path for the second robot. The second robot could solve a grid maze, picking up and unloading payloads.

Hobbies

Photography

I have been capturing the beauty as a hobby for a few years. You can find my full collection on my Instagram.

Other

Working part-time in Australia sparked my creative instincts. I was able to spin-off a couple of my hobbies into side hustles. This include a Sri Lankan sweets producer (Koel Sweets) and a live cover band (Ratakaju)
